Two boys and their Pokémon

Exploring was one of the priorities for Red since arriving in Avalar. It felt like an unusual activity to his body, if only because of how long it had been since he'd moved from anything but the same paths along the same snowy mountain. Not that it couldn't be adventurous at times when the weather would get unpredictable and the pokémon feistier, but everything had become largely familiar in those years. It wasn't unwelcome- maybe this would be a change that was needed for him, one that he was unaware of.

The days felt too short for how much there was to be seen- but that was fine, since they were going to be there for a while, it seemed. Red only learnt (somewhat embarrassingly) the access to more locations, and he was itching to see what to make of them. Still, he felt there was plenty more to explore about the places that he knew of. Making known of what there was free would be good, at least the trainer thought so; he lived off what existed already, so there was no need for now to be any different. Sunrise Spring had turned out to be good for all those fruit trees everywhere.

What interested him in a visit to Glimmer was the apparent sports fields there. Wide and open areas could be good. How big were they?

He was in no real rush, however, to get to any certain place. He had plans for later on, but travel was made easy for him with his charizard and the transport she provided him. The fire pokémon was tucked away inside her belt for that visit though, and Red walked through the location accompanied by two other pokemon - Pikachu and Espeon.

Espeon took a lead as she usually did, with Pikachu perched on his shoulder with a curious eye at all that could be seen. They may have looked casual, but they were two of Red's most aware pokémon of their surroundings and what was nearby. A pokémon who felt change and could predict the future and a pokémon who kept alert to sounds.

And there would be some certain figures for them to notice on this day out. Now- where might they be?

A quick "You watch everyone, alright?" is given to Pikachu on a bent knee, a pat on the head accompanying it an a happy affirmative given in response, before Red lifts up again and checks at the stalls there are. He has no plan to buy anything, limited in the money he has for the world, but there's no reason to not see what's being offered, the different types foods always a curious sight to see in any location despite his not well-travelled mouth.

Espeon considers the question presented to her, pondering it as her tail sweeps slowly against the ground. And then she answers- for her, it was a state of mind. She decided that Red would keep by her side, and she would ensure that.

Pikachu intervenes, but waits to do so after she's spoken. He tells Eevee that you don't need to evolve to be strong and loyal to your trainer. He knows an Eevee too that's strong, and she loves her trainer a lot, just as much as they love Red.

Eevee's reply comes out a little defensive, but he catches himself and calms back down. In a more even tone, he explains that he just wanted to know for future reference since their battles back home would be getting tougher.

Pichu gazes at him, her usual cheer not present. When he finishes, she huffs and bonks him lightly on the head once, making a comment to stop being a worrywart. She then grins and her cheeks spark a little, adding that everything will be all right. They just needed to trust their friend and help him the best way that they can.

Neither Pikachu nor Espeon understand the defensiveness that comes from Eevee, though it's Espeon that speaks up: evolution is different for everybody; for their kind, it's not so simple.

And with a slight tilt of her head, she asks- does he wish to evolve?

Eevee pauses and his ears droop a little before straightening out and nods his head.

Enzan buys the last of the stuff he needed and makes his way back to the Pokemon.

Espeon's ears twitch, and she picks herself up onto her legs and moves her feet with no aim. There's a somewhat playful tone to her voice as she says that they can talk to his friend about it, if Eevee likes. Pikachu finds a place to pipe up there, saying (and maybe to explain further, where Espeon's intentional simplicity can give the wrong impression)- Eevees can evolve into different things, maybe their friend can help Eevee decide if he doesn't know what he wants to be?

As Pikachu talks, Espeon turns, having already noticed Enzan approaching, and there's a flick of her tail end upwards as she sends a signal to her trainer, who still took an interest in all the different stalls that there were- anything could keep his interest for a while, it seemed. But he'll be joining them in a second too.

Enzan eventually makes it back to the group of Pokemon, his bags in hand. His Pokemon all perk up when he comes back.

And Red is there not long after, hands empty and held out to show as much as he approaches the group.

"Oh hey- done?"

"Yes," he shifts the bags a little and manages to get a smaller one, "I even got some apples for everyone."

He nods, not really assuming that the 'everyone' also includes him and his lot. Pikachu and Espeon come up to his legs, though don't really move away from anybody else as he does.

"I don't know where you plan to eat. You wanna take the lead again?" Red shrugs, slipping his hands into his pockets. And then he figures he can give the pokédex to Enzan during that time.

"There's a spot over here we can sit down at."

Enzan moves towards an empty spot of the town.

And so Red follows, with pokémon companions in co! He finds a spot to sit in the area (seats not at all necessary), Pikachu quickly taking a place on his lap as he does. He rests an arm against a knee.

"So, what else do you do here?" He pauses. "I mean, if you have anything you like to do here. Training?"

"I've tried training, but I guess I'm so used to be surrounded by other people that it feels weird to do it by myself with just my Pokemon."

He settles down in a cross-legged position and pulls out the small bag. He hands out the apples inside, even to Red, his Pikachu, and Espeon.

"Makes sense. It's weird without the wild pokémon around to even battle," Red slips in, just before the offering of apples. The fruit makes him blink, but then he grins and takes it.

"What, us? Thanks!" He thinks for a moment, then reaches to his side pocket to bring out a small swiss army knife with probably a different name in the pokémon world but whaaateeever. Pikachu's happy to plonk his in his own lap (after a thank you-like sound directed to Enzan), but Red faces to Espeon, flicking open the knife portion of the utensil to slice the fruit into slips. When the first one comes out, he hands it over to her- and the pokémon makes the uncut apple in front of her move from before herself and to Red's side.

Swapsies.

"She likes them like this," Red explains, focusing back onto Enzan once the espeon's taken the first slice to begin munching on. But, returning to the topic before apples- "So, you haven't found anyone to train with? I heard there's some other trainers here."

He begins to make another slice. "None around the same level as you?"

Enzan takes a bite out of his apple and chews on it for a bit before swallowing.

"I haven't asked any of the others. As for the same level... I wouldn't know."

"You should try it." He shrugs, but it's not dismissive. "I think it's one of the easier ways we're going to be able to keep our pokémon in shape around here."

He takes one of the slices for himself, swallowing it before he speaks. "I can try and help you out. I get the feeling I've been training longer than you? But if you wanna give it a go."

Enzan glances at his Pokemon, "Well. What do you guys say?"

His Pokemon all look at each other, then nod their heads in confirmation.

"Alright. We can sort something out sometime. --Oh."

Suddenly remembering, he pulls out the pokédex again from before and flips it open. "You still wanted to take a look at this, right? Want me to show you how to use it and you can look yourself?"

"Sure."

[aftermtsilver]

"Okay."

Red messes with the device first, setting it onto the profiles. He then moves closer over to Enzan, plopping himself right next to him and holds it out for him to take. Then, when he has-

"You want to press those." He points to the plus sign, indicating the upper and lower points. "Top one to go back up, bottom to keep going down. Just use those and you'll get through two regions worth of pokémon," he says with a laugh.

And even at some point when/if Enzan goes through it, Red will show how to activate the voice clip for a pokémon!

Enzan had listened to Red's explaination as he took the device into his hands. He followed the instructions and starts scanning through the roster, starting with Bulbasaur.

"Your guys should be on there too," Red says, speaking on. "Pichu's are later in the dex, in the Johto section, and dratini's are around the end? Of the Kanto part. Eevee's are near them, too- you've got some of their evolutions near them, but they're kinda spaced out. I guess they didn't know much about the other two until later on."

Enzan's eyes roamed over the pictures of Pokemon he recognized and ones he didn't while he listened to Red talk at the same time. He lingers a little longer on the Eeveelutions than the others but continues to go through them.

"So you have seen all of these Pokemon?"

"Yep. Caught some too- I have my main team with me, then the rest are back home." Red takes a moment to stop going in further as he could, and asks, "Are these three the only pokémon you have?"

"That's right."

Pichu scampers over to them, having finished her apple. She hops up onto Enzan's shoulder guard and gives a happy, "Pi!" sound.
